Apply for AVGS: Many people are unaware that professional one-on-one coaching can be fully subsidized. This is made possible by the activation and placement voucher, or AVGS for short.
What is an AVGS?
The AVGS is a voucher you can apply for at the employment agency or your job center. Legally, it is based on Section 45 of the German Social Code, Book III (SGB III). With it, you can participate in a program offered by an approved provider, such as application coaching or career guidance. The issuing agency covers all costs.
Who receives an AVGS (voucher for free entry).
In principle, several groups are eligible. These include people who are registered as unemployed, people who are at risk of unemployment, and in certain cases, also employees in a period of professional transition.
There is no legal entitlement in every case. The decision rests with your caseworker, who will assess whether the measure will improve your chances on the job market.
Here's how to proceed
First, consider which type of coaching suits your situation. The more specifically you can articulate what you want to achieve in the conversation, the more convincing your request will be.
Then you arrange an appointment with your advisor or consultant. Describe your situation and explain why coaching would help you. It's helpful if you already know which approved provider you'd like to use.
If the voucher is approved, you will receive it in person or digitally. It will state the validity period and the type of service. You then submit this voucher to the provider, and the coaching can begin.
What you should be aware of
An AVGS voucher has a validity period, usually three months. You must start the course within this time, otherwise it expires.
Also, make sure the provider is AZAV certified. Without this certification, the voucher cannot be redeemed.
